From March 9th-13th, 2026, the Taskar Center for Accessible Technology (TCAT) presented two talks, engaged the community from a table in the Exhibit Hall, and hosted several CSUN 2026 Walkabouts, in-person mini-events focused on demonstrating the on-the-ground data collection process and gathering feedback on AccessMap and the AVIV ScoutRoute app in Anaheim, CA.

Walkabout⚓︎
Participants walked routes around the Anaheim Convention Center area using AVIV ScoutRoute to collect on-the-ground pedestrian infrastructure observations, submitted to the CSUN 2026 workspace.

What Was Observed⚓︎
Participants used AVIV ScoutRoute to submit observations about pedestrian infrastructure conditions along the route, including:
- Sidewalk surface type and condition
- Pathway shoreline presence and type
- Curb ramp details
- Tactile paving presence/absence
- Crosswalk visibility and signal accessibility

Impact⚓︎
The data collected during this event directly supports:
- Accessible routing — improved trip planning for wheelchair users, people in the blind/low-vision community, and others with mobility needs through AccessMap
- Pedestrian navigation — more complete sidewalk and crossing data enables safer, more accurate walking and rolling directions
- Open data — a richer, freely available dataset for Anaheim, CA and the surrounding region
